Abstract:
The transition of the energy system and the resulting shutdown of conventional power plants requires the participation of distributed energy resources in ancillary services. This includes especially the contribution of fast frequency response but also the grid restoration. Due to more frequently occurring extreme weather conditions and decreasing system inertia, the number of blackouts is increasing. Hence, in the future it is of utmost importance to include the distribution grids, where most of the distributed energy resources are connected, to restore small islands and subsequently the whole system after a large-scale blackout. In this paper, an algorithm-based methodology is introduced to analyze distribution grids regarding optimal restoration strategies considering weather conditions and potential dynamic behavior of the grid equipment.
