Abstract:
The Biomass sensor is a P-band Synthetic Aperture Radar with full polarimetric and interferometric capabilities. The antenna system is based on a large reflector in offset configuration and a feed array providing precompensation of cross-polarization. All the payload electronics is included in the Instrument Electronics System (INES) which comprises: Digital Control Unit, Calibration and Distribution Network, Power Amplifier Subsystem, two Receive Amplifier Subsystems, the Instrument Harness and the Instrument Application Software. This paper provides an overview of the Biomass SAR instrument architecture and offers a snapshot of the instrument subsystems. It also illustrates the instrument internal calibration and provides some technological information.
