Abstract:
In this paper, we consider the transmit gain of uniform rectangular arrays (URAs) with cross-polarized antennas with ±45deg polarization. These URAs are similar to URAs that are commonly used at the base station of today’s cellular mobile systems. In particular, we analyze how their transmit gain changes depending on the array size and the antenna separation. We analyze the arrays physically consistently using the Multiport Communication Theory, which takes the mutual coupling into account. As antenna elements, we use infinitely thin but perfectly conducting cross-polarized λ/2-dipoles, for which analytical formulas exist
