Abstract:
This paper presents the design, fabrication and applications of a smart resonant actuator developed for the manipulation of large scale coherent structures in the upper turbulent boundary layer of airfoils. The actuated membrane operates in resonance to achieve high stroke at high frequencies. The constructed design has shown to experimentally achieve a stroke of 700 mm at frequencies in the range of 1:6 kHz. Furthermore, a theoretical model is introduced to describe the non-linear resonant oscillations of the airfoil surface.
