Abstract:
The presented work addresses the development of analytical tests for disturbed FM radio broadcast audio signals, in particular the discussion of improved orthogonal analyses for the detection of different kinds of disturbances in such scenarios. Two main aspects are in focus: The analyses shall predict the expected results of auditory listening tests for music and speech playback in vehicles, i.e. show a high correlation to auditory test results. Secondly, the analyses shall be capable to determine the individual contribution of the various typical FM radio broadcast disturbances on auditory quality. Thus, the different analyses must be orthogonal to each other. This paper introduces a new approach for the detection of the very annoying "pops" caused by multi-path transmissions. Furthermore new listening tests were conducted with heterogeneous audio test material provided by different car and receiver manufactures in order to verify the suitability of the whole set of analyses.
