Abstract:
Most vegetation covers, such as crops, change with seasons, which result in different scattering mechanisms at different times. However, current volume scattering models can only characterize specific types of scattering mechanisms, which limit their applications. In this paper, we propose an adaptive volume scattering model based on an n-power sine probability density function that can be used to model vegetation that changes over time. To validate this model, multi-temporal fully polarimetric Radarsat-2 data in London, Ontario, Canada, are employed. Our results suggest that this adaptive volume scattering model is suitable to characterize vegetation that varies with time.
