Abstract:
In this work, the quantum mechanical and classical descriptions of the most common optical coherent receiver types are reviewed and compared. The transferability of established concepts and methods from classical optical broadband communications to the field of quantum communications is evaluated and discussed. In this regard, the focus lies on the suitability for quantum key distribution.
