Abstract:
“ALETHEIA – Semantic federation of comprehensive product information” is a leading innovation project, sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) that was running from July 2008 to June 2011. In this project, a demonstrator has been developed. It demonstrates the possibilities of wireless sensor networks to enhance the quality of supply chains in European inland transports. After describing the motivation for the project ALETHEIA and providing an introduction to „radio technology in the logistics industry“, the paper gives a technical overview about the realization of three scenarios, each covering typical problems of goods transport. The challenges that still lie in the integration and interoperability of this technology will also be discussed.
