Abstract:
Synthetic aperture techniques are widely used and well-established in both, radar and ultrasound imaging systems, because of the similar wave physics. In this contribution, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) concepts for microwave based imaging are compared to synthetic aperture focusing techniques (SAFT) in ultrasound imaging applications. Examples of coherent echo signal processing with a 24 GHz frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar system for level measurements of bulk goods and a 20 MHz range high-frequency ultrasound (HFUS) imaging system for non-destructive evaluation (NDE) of materials and medical sonography are presented and discussed.
