Abstract:
In the current work a cylindrical beamforming array that works in a commutating mode is presented. From a total number of M radiating elements a sub-set of N successive ones is active at each time. The selection of the N elements array is based on minimizing of the angle between the broadside direction and the direction of arrival of the signal of interest, (SOI). Furthermore the gain maximization is proposed by adaptively combining the outputs of the enabled sub-array elements. The above concept is implemented for the uplink of a wireless communications system and is used for a base station receiver. In the design a comprehensive justification is given and a performance evaluation under various simulation scenarios that include integration into a 2D-RAKE receiver and a MIMO system is made.
