Abstract:
The validation of a unique non-invasive measurement facility for electrically small antennas in the frequency range 500 MHz to 3 GHz is presented. The antenna-to-range interface and low-reflection RF environment has been studied through validation measurements. The aim was to quantify the magnitude of the reflections and to find out the source of the reflections. This helped to determine the best ways for mounting the antennas and laying the cables. Coupling measurement results of various small antennas are presented. A highlight is the huge improvement in results on substitution of the coaxial cable by an optical fibre.
