Abstract:
In this paper the potential of multi-frequency Pol-InSAR is presented to estimate the penetration depth of alpine glaciers. For the penetration depth longer wavelength (L- and P-band) are explored, but also X-band is used for the derivation of the top surface of the glacier. The penetration depth is compared with passive corner reflectors and GPR measurements. For two seasons the investigation are made in the French Alps on the Argentiere Glacier. This research supports the definition of specifications for the next-generation of SAR satellites, e.g. TanDEM-X and BIOMASS.
