Abstract:
A complete long range passive RFID system, compliant with the EPCGlobal UHF Class 1 Generation 2 standard, and focused on the backscattering tag-to-reader communication, is presented in this paper. Special emphasis has been placed on the reader, whose architecture is entirely designed and analyzed. Effects that degrade reader performance are studied. As a result, guidelines for a proper long range RFID reader design, with the main objective of maximizing the operating distance, are derived.
