Abstract:
The four mobile network operators E-Plus, O2, Vodafone and T-Mobile accomplished a big DVB-H pilot trial at the FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany. T-Systems provided the service play-out platform, the so-called MBMAP (Mobile Broadcast Management Platform) delivering 14 TV services and six radio services. MBMAP is an open, flexible and scalable play-out platform for DVB-H services fulfilling the requirements of a mobile broadcast service provider for offering mobile broadcast services. The platform supports various business models as well as the integration of various solutions for ESG and service protection. MBMAP is based on the specification of DVB IP datacast phase 1 and integrates DVB 18Crypt profile for service protection. MBMAP is a client-enabled framework. It supports mobile radio operators, broadcasters, content providers and program plan distributors to use a shared platform offering DVB-H services. That leads to both synergies and reduced costs. This paper describes more in detail the first operational platform for DVB-H pilot trials in Germany.
