Abstract:
In this paper, we investigate the impact of channel estimation on the performance of bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM-OFDM) systems with iterative decoding. Pilot-aided and iterative channel estimation techniques are evaluated with Gray labeling and symbol mappings optimized for iterative decoding by means of numerical simulations. We show that after several turbo iterations, pilot-aided channel estimation provides the best performance in terms of bit error rate (BER) while the iterative estimation approach achieves a better frame error rate (FER) performance.
