This paper proposes an application of Device-to-Device communication in a wireless network which exploits network coding to enhance its performance. In the proposed scheme users involved in direct Device-to-Device transmission utilize the base station as a support for their transmission. The base station does not use simulcast transmission to forward users information but it uses multicast transmission instead contrary to some relaying approaches. To achieve multicast transmission the base station utilizes network coding which allows to transmit multiple linearly independent data streams in a single stream which is most commonly a linear combination of component streams. This solution allows for reduction of used resources measured in number of transmission time slots and also possibly enhances the transmission quality, as well as the range of Device-to-Device communication. The applicability of the proposed solution is verified via computer simulations.
